Overview

We were engaged by Thiess to assist in the development of a seawater intake, designed to provide water to use at the mine.

The project included:

  • Pre-casting panels close to the Ravensthorpe Mine Site
  • Transporting panels 40km to Seawater intake and install the units.

Scope

The scope of the contract included:

  • Construction of 8m (diameter) units for the main shaft and precast walls for the channel, using special low heat concrete;
  • Install bases for main chamber and channels; and
  • Install walls to chamber and channel.

Challenges

During the project execution we were faced with the following site-specific challenges:

  • Dealing with the odour from the existing plant;
  • Managing ignition sources relating to the significant risk of bush fire; and
  • The potential risks from fauna and flora in the area, such as tick and snake bites.
