Overview
We were engaged by Thiess to assist in the development of a seawater intake, designed to provide water to use at the mine.
The project included:
- Pre-casting panels close to the Ravensthorpe Mine Site
- Transporting panels 40km to Seawater intake and install the units.
Scope
The scope of the contract included:
- Construction of 8m (diameter) units for the main shaft and precast walls for the channel, using special low heat concrete;
- Install bases for main chamber and channels; and
- Install walls to chamber and channel.
Challenges
During the project execution we were faced with the following site-specific challenges:
- Dealing with the odour from the existing plant;
- Managing ignition sources relating to the significant risk of bush fire; and
- The potential risks from fauna and flora in the area, such as tick and snake bites.
